Let’s break down a typical day, 8 hours of sleep, 1 hour of commute time and 8 hours of work for a total of 17 hours of the 24 hours each day, that you shouldn’t be on your phone. These leaves 7 hours to complete everything you need to during the day such as errands, chores and cooking dinner.

Let’s start with the biggest question, just how much does the average person use their smartphone in a typical day. According to Leftronic, that number is 2 hours and 51 minutes per day that the average person spends on their mobile device. If we factor that in the normal day listed above that only leaves us with just over 4 hours to do everything we need to outside of work each day. 22% of individuals check their phones every few minutes and 51% of users checking it a few times per hour.

Now that we know more about how much users use their mobile device, let’s look at just how many people own one. At the time of this blog, the world population is around 7.9 billion. In 2019 2.7 billion individuals owned a smart phone. That number doubles to over 5 billion if we include all mobile devices. Genius CPR provides one of the best Computer repairs services.

With these 5 billion devices, there were 194 billion apps downloaded in 2019. That comes out to just shy of 40 apps downloaded per device per year! We’ve already established that on average users are spending just shy of 3 hours a day on their mobile device, but how often are they actually doing something on their device? The average smartphone user has 63 interactions on their phone a day. 69% of users check their smartphone within 5 minutes of waking up, and 87% have checked it within 1 hour of going to bed. Perhaps the most telling stat, and the most annoying, is that 86% of people admit to having checked their phone while having a conversation with friends.
