Samsung S22 Series: Features, Specs and Designs

Love is in the air and so is the Samsung Galaxy S22. Last week on February 9th, Samsung announced the launch of the Samsung S22 at their annual Unpacked event. The Samsung S22 is currently available for preordering and Samsung will begin shipping the phones on February 25th. If you are looking for a last-minute gift this Valentine’s Day for your significant other, preordering the Samsung S22 is the perfect gift. Since Samsung isn’t shipping their phone until February 25th, they would never even know it was a last-minute gift. Before you order this gift for Valentine’s Day, you should know what you are ordering. In today’s blog, we are going look into the features, specs and design of the new Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Lineup

Samsung is releasing three models of the S22 to choose from: Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The S22 and S22 Plus are available with 120GB or 256GB of storage. They are available in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Pink and Gold. The Samsung S22 Ultra are available with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage.  The S22 Ultra comes in the same colors as the S22 and S22 Plus as well as an exclusive Burgundy color. There are also online exclusive colors including yellow, blue, and purple.

The S22 and S22 Plus look similar to the S21 family with big screens and rounded corners. However, the S22 Ultra has a more square-cornered shape. As the name suggests, the S22 Ultra has the largest display of the series. The S22 has a 6.8-inch display compared to 6.6 inches and 6.1 inches for the S22 Plus and S22, respectively.

Samsung is also becoming more environmentally friendly with their devices. Samsung replaced plastic in their phones with repurposed fishing nets, CD cases, and recycled water bottles. The phones recycled fishing nets to become plastic in the devices. The devices have 20% repurposed fishing nets. Samsung also used small quantities of CD cases and water bottles in the makeup of the phone. CD cases and water bottle parts are in the inner part of the power key, volume keys, and inner speaker module. Samsung has also reduced the packaging material for the S22 series by 19% compared to the S21.

Samsung Features

Although the design of the phone is important, what many of us are wondering is what new features and specs the S22 series will have. The S22 series are powered by a 4nm Qualcomm processor which makes this series the fastest processor in a Galaxy device. Many gamers will be happy with the upgraded processor.  The S22 and S22+ display is built with intelligent Vision Booster technology that automatically adjusts the display depending on the lighting around you. This feature enhances the color contrast of the display, providing the best display of your video or phone content.

The Samsung S22 Ultra combines the S series and the Samsung Note features. The S22 Ultra has a built in S Pen. The S Pen is the fastest and most responsive S Pen Samsung has made with 70% lower latency. This allows users to write and draw more naturally and efficiently. The S22+ and Ultra also come with Wi-Fi 6E which is about twice as fast as the Wi-Fi 6 seen in the S21 series. Faster Wi-fi means you will receive top performance when gaming, streaming, working, or just using your phone in general.

Samsung is also providing users with top tier security for their devices. As working from home becomes more prevalent, sharing data and protecting your devices has become more important than ever. Samsung Knox Vault security platform includes secure processors and memory. The Knox Vault isolates sensitive data such as passwords, biometrics and more from the phone’s main operating system. Samsung has also made it easier to see which apps are accessing your data which gives you more control of what apps you want accessing your data. The ARM micro architecture, a new security feature, helps prevent cyberattacks on your operating system and memory.

Camera Quality

If you are like me, one of the most important features I look for in a phone is camera quality. I want to make sure I have a phone that is going to accurately replicate all the picture-perfect moments. The S22 and S22+ have three rear cameras that consist of a 50-megapixel wide lens, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. The telephoto lens has 3x the optical zoom capabilities which can extend to a 30x digital zoom. Compared to the S21, the S22 telephoto lens is down from the S21’s 64MP sensor. Samsung, however, says they have made improvements to the quality of the sensor which results in better pictures.

The S22 Ultra has a superior camera setup compared to the rest of the series. There are four rear cameras on the S22 Ultra with the primary camera having a 108MP sensor, like the S21 Ultra. The Ultra has the same 12MP ultrawide camera and 10MP telephoto lens as the rest of the series. However, the S22 Ultra has one additional camera – a 10MP 10x optical zoom camera. The optical zoom camera can achieve a digital zoom of up to 100x. This helps far-off images and nighttime images look sharp.

The S22 series also offers a series of advanced features in their photo capturing capabilities. Samsung has improved their Night Mode (referred as Nightography) on the S22 series. The S22 series, specifically the S22 Ultra, has advanced cameras for capturing images and videos in low-light situations. Nightography uses multi frame stacking and the S22 Ultra has 23% larger pixel size to improve shots taken in dim environments. The series also has advance Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to aid in producing stable videos and negating any shaky-ness that may be produced when filming a video.
